University of Southampton
Experience Engineering is a three-day residential summer school aimed at Year 12 students interested in studying engineering at university. Participants are introduced to Ship Science and Mechanical Engineering, and work in teams to design, build and test a Greenpower car and a fastcraft for water.
The programme includes talks, workshops and seminars delivered by staff and students in the University of Southampton Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Participants live in university halls of residence for the duration of the course and are mentored by current undergraduate and postgraduate students, giving insight into university life and engineering careers.
The course is free to attend. To be eligible, students must be Year 12, under 18 during the programme, have strong GCSE results (at least five grades 9-7) and be taking relevant subjects. Applicants must also meet at least two widening-participation criteria as listed by the programme.
